Crazy quilting is a large part of our lives; it is a means of creative
expression through its combination of many textile techniques. As such, it
is a unique creature, and consequently there are very few venues for crazy
quilts to be displayed and competently judged in quilt competitions. The
quilt world currently revolves around the precision of standard "sane"
quilting and piecing along with machine quilting, which is not entirely
applicable to our quilts. To that end, I have created a new
group, CQ Promoters, (a Yahoo group) with the goal of bringing crazy
quilting into the mainstream consciousness of the quilting world. We are in
the midst of developing our member base and have had well known artists and
business women such as Allison Aller, Cindy Brick, Cindy Thury-Smith,
Victoria Adams Brown, Nancy Kirk (the list goes on) join in our efforts.
Other well known talents such as Sharon Boggon, Carole Samples and Barbara
Blankenship hope to join in the near future. The final touches are being
completed on the mission statement, researching appropriate business
structures, reviewing organization names and organizing our "community" to
bring these goals to fruition. Such tasks as locating sponsors for quilt
shows, establishing judging standards for crazy quilting, website
development and digital archives are in the beginning stages of development
for this international endeavor. We know this will need to be a "grass
roots" effort combined with our known artists and business owners to achieve
the reality of recognition for the art of crazy quilting. If you are
interested in participating in this journey, we would love to have you join
us. I can be contacted at the following email address:
